HRG to consolidate events under Battley

Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) has charged newly-appointed director (events and meetings management) David Battley with consolidating its C&I offer as it looks to put greater focus on the events sector. Battley, the former EBA managing director appointed to newly created role in late August, now heads up HRG’s event divisions at its London and Leicester offices as well as HRG’s Powerwaves incentives wing. He is currently in consultation with Reto Bacher, president (events and meetings management) to finalise a strategy, with the plan scheduled to be unveiled next month, accompanied by a marketing plan to drive UK event business. “HRG is a sleeping giant in terms of events,” Battley said of the traditionally business travel-focused firm. “Traditionally, the C&I market has been fractured, but with the ongoing trend towards acquisitions and expansions, there are now many more big players. HRG is a very big company with a great deal of buying power and we can use our presence very successfully in the market.” Bacher – also in a new role having previously been European president at HRG – said that while there was work to be done, he was convinced that under Battley HRG could match the other large-scale UK agencies: “We have quite a lot of catching up to do in the UK, but we have been doing events for a long time and the sector is set for a big revival under David. We are seeing the same trends in the event market that we saw in the business travel sector 15 years ago and we will now take a dual approach, reallocating resources in line with our core business.”
