AEO names Soar as new chair

The Association of Event Organisers (AEO) has elected Waypoint Exhibitions chairman Philip Soar as chairman of the trade body, "I am honoured to take over at a time of transition as the association focuses on the issues that really matter to members,” Soar said. “In the next twelve months the AEO will make promoting the industry its priority, driving activity through Events Industry Alliance that influences the people who spend money on events. We will have more networking opportunities and continue to make the AEO the hub for the industry to meet, establish best practice, share ideas and do business.” Soar succeeds Brenda Daly, who stepped down when she left DMG World Media in July. Interim chairman Chris Hughes, director of Brand Events, resumes his position as vice chairman of the association. “Phil is one of the greats of our industry,” Hughes added. “His experience, intellect and energy will be a great asset to our industry as it has been to so many successful ventures."
