HBAA: Rand urges uptake of CIPS guide

Zibrant director of industry relations Peter Rand has called for agencies to move the procurement debate on by rallying round the new CIPS Guide to Event Services. Speaking during this afternoon’s opening session of the Hotel Booking Agents Association (HBAA) annual forum, being held at the Four Pillars Cotswold Water Park Hotel, Rand said: “This enables you to take some control over the changes in the industry. Take this guide to your procurement contacts – it is written by them and kite-marked by their trade body, and not just a selling tool.” Plans for the guide were announced at last year’s forum and it has been created by a working party including HBAA, Eventia and MPI representatives, working alongside the Chartered Institute of Procurement Services (CIPS). As well as an overview of procurement in the events sector, the publication includes a best practice guide and elements on measurement and evaluation. From Monday a six-page topline ‘Knowledge Summary’ and the full 26-page CIPS Guide will be available on the websites of all four organisations involved in its creation. Rand accepted that tweaks may need to be made, urging feedback ahead of a meeting of the working party on 19 November to discuss reactions and make the necessary changes.
