Von Essen adds Amberley Castle

Von Essen has taken its portfolio to 25 with the acquisition of Amberley Castle from the Cummings family for an undisclosed sum. Sited near Arundel, West Sussex, the castle was built if the 12th century and was bought by Martin and Joy Cummings in 1988. The couple transformed it from its then near-derelict state into a property boasting 19 luxury rooms and suites. The Cummings’ made Amberley a member of the Relais & Châteaux independent property group in 2004. "I am delighted about the inclusion of Amberley Castle in our portfolio,” said Von Essen chairman Andrew Davis. “It is a historical treasure that offers a truly unique experience and expanding our collection into the South Downs, an important part of the UK." This is now the third Castle property within the von Essen collection, alongside Thornbury Castle in Gloucestershire, and Dalhousie Castle in Edinburgh.
