Venue chain earns environmental accreditation

Etc Venues has upped its environmental commitment with a scheme to place a ‘green champion’ at each of its seven London sites. The representatives are already in place at six of the company’s venues with the last, at Etc’s recently purchased Dexter House in Tower Hill set to be announced within days. Each ‘champion’ is responsible for driving a wide range of environmental initiatives at each property. The six in place recently completed foundation level of The Chartered institute of Waste Management’s 'Waste Awareness’ qualification, an award recognised by the Environmental Agency, SEPA, The Environmental and Heritage Service among others. “A lot of people are putting out policies at the moment, which is easy to do, but we have 160 people across our venues and we can give this real impact,” said managing director Alastair Stewart. “We do a lot of work with public sector clients such as Southwark Council, which push us very hard on our environmental performance and tenders from corporate clients are increasingly also questioning us in this area.” With the final member in place, the group will work towards achieving ISO14001 certification for the company, with Stewart targeting the first quarter of next year for completion.
