NUJ picks Southport for annual conference

The Floral Hall in Southport has secured the National Union (NUJ) of Journalists annual conference in 2009. An estimated 300 journalists from national and regional newspapers, business publications and consumer magazines, among others, will attend the annual conference in March. The NUJ is among the world’s largest trade unions for journalists and has 35,000 members. A number of C&I venue and accommodation developments have taken place in Southport recently, which Sefton Council believes is responsible for its conference and corporate sales team’s record year. It has attracted almost £50m worth of business in the six months to June. Conferences have been booked at the resort as far in advance as 2017. Sefton Council cabinet member for leisure and tourism Lord Ronnie Fearn said: “We have a lot to offer and even more is being developed to make Southport a perfect destination for conferences of all sizes.”
