Starwood strengthens C&I team

Starwood Hotels & Resorts UK and Ireland has restructured its agency sales team, placing emphasis on the UK conference and incentive market. Heading the team, which will be based at the Sheraton Skyline Hotel at Heathrow, is Penny Carter, formally regional account director for the meetings and incentive market, who has been appointed director of MICE sales UK and Ireland. She will be responsible for managing top agency accounts and driving new sales and marketing in the sector and report to Westin Turnberry Resort director of sales and marketing Stephen Walker. Emma Ward has been recruited to the position of regional business development manager UK and Ireland. Her remit is to identify new business opportunities with agencies. An additional sales and marketing position will be created to deliver ongoing promotions. “We have always placed great emphasis on the MICE segment and we felt it was time for us to review how to best service agent requirements with an expanding portfolio of products across the UK and Ireland,” said Starwood Hotels & Resorts regional director sales and marketing, North West Europe, Paul James. “With an enhanced role for Penny, Emma joining the team, and a supporting sales and marketing role, we have created a more strategic approach where we can be much more reactive to market place changes and hotel requirements. The group is developing a dedicated UK and Ireland meetings and incentives website that will provide agents and clients with information on venue capacity, facilities and special offers. Starwood Hotels UK and Ireland portfolio includes the Westin Dublin and Sheraton Fota Island Hotel & Spa in Cork, Westin Turnberry Resort in Ayrshire, Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa in Edinburgh, and Le Méridien Piccadilly.
