C&I specialist unveils environmental plans

Expotel has brought in a raft of environmental measures that has seen the venue finding and event management specialist gain carbon-neutral status. As well as offsetting its carbon footprint, the company has introduced in-house measures to reduce its environmental impact and offer to apply its new approach to its clients’ events. “A full emissions assessment was conducted in order to deliver an accurate carbon footprint relating to all our operations,” said Expotel chief executive Ian Burnley. The assessment covered greenhouse gas emissions from the operational activities of Expotel for the 12-month period of December 2005 to November 2006 and three projects have been chosen to help the firm to offset the emissions. These comprise reforestation projects in Nairnside Wood, Inverness-shire, Myndd-Y-Garnedd in Snowdonia and Greenland Wood near Overseal in Derbyshire. The internal measures to decrease emissions include increased recycling, installation of energy efficient hot water heaters to replace kettles and lights that automatically shut off when no motion is detected. In offering carbon neutrality to its customers, Expotel’s clients can now have the carbon footprint of their events assessed based on hotel and conference consumption either for them to offset through Expotel or through projects of their choice.
