Imex: US drives record visitor numbers

A record 8,000 visitors, including more than 3,500 hosted buyers, attended Imex Frankfurt this week, according to provisional statistics. Last year the show attracted 3,400 hosted buyers among a total 7,600 visitors Imex chairman Ray Bloom attributed the growth to the expansion of the show’s long-haul hosted buyer programme, which primarily focused on the American market. Next year, Imex intends to expand the hosted buyer programme further, again looking to attract more buyers from outside Europe, particularly the US. “One of the ways we hope to achieve this is with the MPI European Professional Education Conference (PEC-E), which takes place in London the weekend before Imex 2008,” said Bloom. Imex 2008 will be held on 22-24 April. “We will be working closely with MPI and the PCE-E organising committee in London to attract a good representation of US planners to London and Frankfurt to take advantage of both events. There will be special arrangements with airlines, particularly Lufthansa, and we are working closely with Visit London.” Final statistics for this year’s show are due to be issued next week.
