Venue association names new chair

The Association of Event Venues (AEV) has named Excel London deputy chief executive and managing director Kevin Murphy as its new chairman. Murphy, former vice chair of AEV, accepted the board’s nomination for the position following EC&O Venues group commercial director Nigel Nathan’s decision to step down from the position after two-and-a-half years of service. Nathan intends to maintain ties with the organisation. Murphy said he was “fully aware of the responsibilities the role demands”. AEV is an organisation that promotes excellence throughout the venue community and boosting its 50-strong membership is on Murphy’s agenda. “AEV has come a long way, but has even further to go,” said Murphy. “There is much that I intend to build on in my time as chair. There are a great number and variety of exhibition and event venues operating within the UK and beyond that could add an extra dimension to AEV and derive real benefits in return. The organisation must continue to grow its membership base and increase its representation of such venues and, therefore, the power of its voice.” Murphy has, in the past, served three years as Association of Exhibition Organisers (AEO) chairman and was involved in the formation of AEV. AEV director Tom Treverton said: “Nigel was instrumental to the organisation’s formation in 2004 and his expertise, energy and enthusiasm has been fundamental in developing AEV into what it is today.”
