Starwood expands in Japan

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has expanded its Sheraton brand in Japan with the addition of two hotels. The group has signed a franchise agreement with Kintetsu Hotel Systems, which will see both the 492-room Miyako Tokyo Hotel and 575-room Miyako Osaka Hotel come under the Sheraton banner. Sheraton is renovating the two properties, both of which are scheduled to open in April. This will include the addition of Sheraton’s signature services and amenities such as the Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed, new linens and plush down pillows, and LCD flat-screen TVs and wireless high-speed internet access in all rooms. Starwood already has 14 hotels and resorts in Japan, under its Sheraton, Le Meridien and Westin brands. Miguel Ko, president of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific, said the agreement “dramatically enhances Sheraton’s already impressive portfolio in Asia Pacific”. “We are confident that the Sheraton brand will strengthen our marketing and sales efforts to drive international business to the hotels and to the destinations,” said President of Kintetsu Hotel Systems, Yasuyuki Suzuki.
