24.1.07 Acquisition boosts Co-op events

Midlands Co-operative Society has strengthened its Forward Travel Management business travel portfolio with the acquisition of Northampton-based Yorks Business Travel Management. The move marks a departure for the Co-opportunity, which previously consisted of four Forward Travel Management offices. The Yorks business brings with it over 75 years' experience and incorporates a trade fairs and events management division. Midlands Co-op head of business travel Diane Pinion said the acquisition bought a number of advantages to the group: “Yorks has a strong client base, and a very good reputation. It’s also a strong expansion into a new geographic area for us.” Pinion explained that the Midlands Co-opportunity’s groups and conference department previously consisted of a single person servicing around ten clients. Yorks has a staff of 11, described by Pinion as “very experienced, many with over 15 years experience in the business.” There are plans for the Co-operative Society to expand even further. Pinion said, “That is the ultimate aim, though for now we are just settling into a new relationship and seeing how this new operation fits in with ours.”
