Euro 2008 hosts in joint C&I push

Switzerland and Austria are capitalising on their joint hosting of Euro 2008 by teaming up to promote their C&I offer ahead of the football tournament. The collaboration will lead to three London-based events including a joint-sponsorship of the CSR category at February’s ITM Awards. A football-themed event at Confex is also planned, as well as a networking evening for buyers in September. Both offices will share resources and suppliers to help buyers plan events spanning both countries. No joint fam trips are planned currently, but Austria business and convention network marketing manager Martina Jakob said that this could be a possibility. “Euro 2008 provides us with excellent corporate hospitality and incentive opportunities,” she said. “This partnership is designed so that both countries can showcase their facilities while allowing buyers to scope both destinations simultaneously.” SCIB meetings and incentives manager Caroline Phillips-Pidroni played down the possibility of either country losing business to the other. “Switzerland and Austria have a similar offering and it is unlikely that most PCOs hosting events around Euro 2008 would use just one destination.”
