Corporates to opt for North East

Newcastle-based agency Benchmark Communications has widened its remit beyond conferences and events with the addition of a corporate hospitality and entertainment division. The company has hired Paul Szomuru, previously at Millennium Copthorne, as a new corporate events services manager. His remit will include finding and developing new business leads. The move comes in response to feedback from the Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, which identified a shortage of businesses catering for corporate business in the north east of England. "The majority of SMEs in the north east tend to organise events in house or subcontract services to London agencies," said Szomuru. "Our mission to create a one-stop corporate entertainment arm and then sell it as an alternative option." Szomuru who was recruited in September will work with Benchmark’s communication manager Helen Parry in targeting the corporate market. Managing director Vincent Woods said Benchmark was now the biggest event company in the north east and one of the fastest growing in the UK. He added: "We know we can add to our services with dedicated departments such as the corporate hospitality division."
