C&IT launches first events industry CSR guide

In response to reader demand, C&IT has launched the first-ever CSR guide for the meetings and events industry. The 24-page best-practice guide is the output of C&IT’s Campaign for Change that launched in November 2005 to encourage readers to take a more sustainable approach to business activities. The guide includes tips on aligning with corporate CSR policies, choosing the best venues and suppliers, and insights into how companies are changing their operations to leave a legacy not a footprint. C&IT deputy editor Yasmin Razak said: "Buoyed by the overwhelming support of the Campaign for Change, C&IT recognised the need for the meeting industry to have a clear template that it could use to implement CSR on a practical level. "The guide, therefore, looks at how clients and agencies are addressing CSR in their businesses, as well as a putting forward a range of ideas for those looking for inspiration or direction." The guide can be read here. C&IT’s Campaign for Change launched in November 2005 to encourage readers to consider the following options:
  • Choosing a venue with a clear environmental policy
  • Offsetting costs by donating to charities linked to the regions you visit
  • Calculating the carbon costs of your group’s fuel emissions and offsetting them by donating to green projects
  • Only using recyclable materials and donating any unused promotional items to the local community they visit
