Aberdeen Convention Bureau seeks ambassadors

Aberdeen Convention Bureau is calling upon representatives from academia and industry to help promote Aberdeen city and the surrounding county as a conference destination. The Aberdeen Ambassador Programme is funded by Aberdeen City Council and Scottish Enterprise Grampian which help attract business tourism and raise the region’s profile in the global conference market place. “Aberdeen is competing in a global marketplace to secure conferences and events, so fostering a relationship with key figures in academic and industry sectors plays an important role in bringing business to Aberdeen,” said Ambassador Programme executive Shelagh Barr. “Some 75% of association conferences are secured because of local ambassadors.” The programme builds on Aberdeen’s national and international reputation in industries such as medical research, food science, energy and agriculture and was set up to provide information and support to key individuals who are able to influence affiliated organisations to bring their conference to Aberdeen. Existing ambassadors have a high profile within fields such as medicine, life science, academia, oil and gas, and the environmental sector. Events such as Carbon 2006 and the Food Micro Conference 2008 were secured as a result of collaboration between the Aberdeen Convention Bureau and local ambassadors,” said Barr. Between them the conferences will benefit the local economy by more than £2.2 million. Anyone interested in finding out about the Ambassador Programmer should call 01224
