Astraeus launches first scheduled UK to Gambia service for 20 years

A new Astraeus route between London Gatwick and Banjul - starting on 5 May - marks the first scheduled service operated by a UK airline to the Gambia in almost 20 years. Flights will initially operate on Fridays, and from May 30 a second weekly flight will be introduced on Tuesdays. Flights will depart at 9.15am on Tuesday mornings with a return departure from Banjul at 3.30pm. Friday flights will run at the later timing of 3.45pm from Gatwick and 10.15pm from Banjul, arriving at Gatwick on Saturday morning. This schedule means that a range of connections is available to destinations throughout the UK, Europe and North America via Gatwick. Astraeus has also teamed up with The Gambia Experience, the UK's leading tour operator to the Gambia, to offer a range of holiday packages based around the new scheduled flights. Astraeus commercial director Jonathan Hinkles commented: "We are delighted to have joined with The Gambia Experience to offer this scheduled service which we are certain will be very well received by holidaymakers, the business community and various other key organisations. "The scheduled flight will increase flexibility and standards of service for customers flying between the UK and Banjul and we're pleased to add the Gambia to our growing network of routes between the UK and Africa." Boeing 757 aircraft will be used on the route, with two standards of on-board service. There are 40 seats in the Star Class premium section, offering dedicated check-in facilities and additional baggage allowance, wider seats with 36-inch seat pitch, enhanced in-flight dining, complimentary drinks and entertainment systems throughout the flight. In the main cabin, Astraeus offers scheduled 31-inch seat pitch, complimentary hot meals and soft drinks.
