Swallow buys up six Scottish properties

Swallow Hotels is strengthening its C&I potential with the acquisition of six new properties in Scotland. The purchases include key golf and conference hotels Carnoustie Hotel and Gleddoch House Hotel, making it the biggest independent hotel group in Scotland. Swallow Hotels chief executive Peter Gray said the acquisition of key MICE properties such as Carnoustie Hotel would give Swallow a foothold in the meetings market through promoting corporate golf days. “This will be our flagship C&I property, so our sales and marketing campaign will include a series of fam trips to Carnoustie in addition to direct sales calls to the corporate clients,” he said. “We will also be introducing a loyalty programme for event planners to further entice them to book functions at the properties and hope to roll this out by the second quarter.” Swallow Hotels currently has 67 properties in Scotland and aims to grow to 100 hotels by the end of 2006. The other four recent acquisitions comprise the Ballachulish Hotel, The Isles of Glencoe Hotel and Leisure Centre, the Oban Caledonian Hotel and the Huntly Arms Hotel in Aboyne.
