Colin Rorrie steps down as MPI president and CEO

Colin Rorrie is stepping down as president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), indicating he has accomplished what he was hired to do which was to create the foundation for establishing meeting planning as a recognised profession. Chairwoman of the MPI board and president and CEO of Maritz Travel Christine Duffy reflected the views of MPI members and staff alike in thanking Rorrie for his many contributions to the organisation. “Colin has left a very positive impression on MPI and our industry,” she said. “He’s played an important role in bringing the MPI strategic plan to life and most recently oversaw the launch of MPI Member Solutions, our unprecedented programme for career planning and member resources. Colin has also been a partner to the MPI leadership and me, with whom he has worked over the last three years. We thank him for strengthening MPI’s internal and external relationships and building a solid foundation for our exciting future.” Rorrie assumed the position of MPI president and CEO in 2003. In addition to his work on MPI Member Solutions, Rorrie has overseen the management and steady growth of the meeting profession’s largest member association. That growth included reaching the 20,242member mark, the highest in MPI’s history, and record-breaking attendance at major conferences. He has also helped build a strong financial reserve position for MPI. Starwood Hotels & Resorts will allow MPI chairman-elect and GM of The Westin Bayshore Resort & Marina in Vancouver Mark Andrew time to lead the association during this transition. Christine Duffy will appoint a search committee to recruit a new CEO.
