Maroma Resort & Spa reopens after Hurricane Wilma

The Maroma Resort & Spa on Mexico’s Riviera Maya has reopened with eight new beach front spa villas. The 64-room boutique hotel and spa had been closed for repairs following Hurricane Wilma, which hit the coast in October 2005. The closure of the resort gave Orient-Express Hotels the opportunity to build the much anticipated Sian Nah (Mayan for ‘house of heaven’) suites. Each of the eight new ocean front suites is a complete sanctuary equipped with its own spa space for massages and spa treatments, a wellness area with fitness equipment, a living room, a bedroom, and a spacious outdoor terrace with private plunge pool, lounge area and dining palapa. “Returning after the storm and seeing the damage was heartbreaking for all of us,” said Felipe Espinoza, Maroma Resort and Spa general manager. “However, it is inspiring to see what we have accomplished after only 16 weeks.”
