Ritz-Carlton to open luxury resort in the Caribbean

Hotel company Ritz Carlton has announced plans for a new resort on Rose Island in the Bahamas, scheduled to open in 2009. The hotel, on the western side of the island, will offer 95 guestrooms and suites with an average of 51 sqm. The hotel will also offer a swimming pool, spa, gourmet restaurant and meeting space. In addition to the hotel, the 230-acre enclave will include a sheltered marina for yachts, estate homes, condominiums and townhouses. Ritz-Carlton’s senior vice president, Ezzat Coutry said that while the resort itself would focus on privacy, its location - close to Paradise Island – would also provide "an array of recreational, shopping and dining opportunities". The group’s president Simon F Cooper described the project "as a great opportunity for Ritz-Carlton to add a premier destination in the Caribbean."
