Grass Roots strengthens team in line with company expansion

Thomas Hannah Associates (THA) former managing director Debbie Watt and Maritz Travel managing director Nick Bender have joined the Grass Roots Group, it was confirmed today. Watt joins as client services director, replacing former incumbent Amanda Wright who has left to become a full-time mother. Watt resigned from her position at THA last year because “she did not want to be part of the company’s expansion plans”, said a source. Bender takes up the newly created post of general manager for European operations. He will be responsible for the development of Grass Roots’ European offices in France, Germany, Greece, Spain and Ireland as well as a planned new operation in Italy. “We have an increasing international presence and we can't keep stretching our resources, so we’ve had to recruit more staff,” said Grass Roots chairman David Evans. “We’re looking at bringing other industry figures in, but can't say who yet. But we haven’t had to headhunt anyone. People just want to join us because we’re a successful company.” While confirming that the Italy office was just awaiting final approval, Evans was adamant that industry rumours that Grass Roots is purchasing Maritz Europa were untrue. “They have a different culture there, and we’re not interested,” he said. Grass Roots is holding a press conference on Monday 16 January to announce details of a company restructure and plans for the future.
