Norfolk and Norwich opens for business

The Norwich & Norfolk Conference Bureau is officially inaugurated this month. After a four-month soft-launch period in which it signed up around 40 members, the bureau becomes formally active from 22 November. The county-wide body, funded by a public/private sector partnership, stems from the region’s desire to emulate rising leisure tourism numbers with more business groups. "We’re keen to increase our share of conference business. Something like this is long overdue for Norwich and the county as a whole," said manager Virginia Edwards. "It’s a beautiful region with a lively cultural scene, high quality infrastructure and a range of products for all budgets. We’re also easier to reach than ever before." Rail, road and air access has all improved recently, and Norwich Airport has benefited from an £8.5m investment. The bureau will attend four UK trade shows annually – a presence at the National Venue Show has already won business. Current members include De Vere Dunston Hall, Marriott Sprowston Manor, Yarmouth Racecourse, the University of East Anglia and Norwich City FC.
