Mauritius reappoints Ghoorah as UK C&I boss

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has reappointed Toto Ghoorah as manager of the London office. Ghoorah worked for the MTPA in London for seven years and left in September 2003 to take up a role in Mauritius looking after the MICE market. He returned the UK post on 1 September and his immediate aim is to raise the C&I profile of the destination. “The image of Mauritius needs to be consolidated – we do not have a massive reputation as a prime MICE destination and we need to position ourselves as a key player for the UK market,” he said. “ The opening of the new convention centre means that Mauritius is now suitable for larger groups and events – we are not just a small island product.” Ghoorah added that breaking away from the destination’s image as an expensive option is also key. “The island is suitable for exclusive groups, but we need to get away from the high-price perception,” he said. Potential buyers will be targeted at EIBTM this year and a workshop for incentive houses and fam trips are planned for 2006.
