P&MM chief is new chair of ITMA

Nigel Cooper, managing director of agencies P&MM and Archer Young, is the new chairman of the Incentive Travel and Meetings Association (ITMA). Voted in following an election among the ITMA board at the end of August, Cooper will take over from incumbent chairman Roger Harvey with immediate effect. “I am delighted to take on this role,” said Cooper. “I recognise this as a serious challenge and will do everything in my power to ensure the association grows and truly represents the whole industry. “The association has faced a number of challenges over the past few years and I hope I will get the support of the industry as I endeavour to deliver what is wanted,” he said. Meanwhile, a replacement for former ITMA executive director Charles Robinson has been put on hold until decisions regarding the management of Eventia, the new alliance between the ITMA and Corporate Events Association (CEA), have been resolved. Robinson, who held the post for the past five years, would not go into details regarding his resignation but said he would be looking to use his industry contacts to investigate opportunities in the marketplace. In the meantime, Sarah Webster, the current ITMA communications officer and Robinson’s predecessor from 1990 to 2000, will be standing in as “caretaker on a short-term basis”. “Eventia is currently in the process of planning its internal structure, which it hopes to have in place by the end of the year,” she said. Webster added that the changes at the association meant that Cooper’s appointment as chairman was well timed. “Roger Harvey felt that the new body needed a new figurehead to take it forward. However, it does not mean that Nigel will have sole responsibility for Eventia as [CEA chairman] Sam Gill will continue to be highly influential.”
