Head for Marketing Birmingham at last

Birmingham aims to "realise its true potential as one of Europe’s leading cities for business and tourism", following the appointment of a new chief executive at Marketing Birmingham. Former CEO of The Newcastle Gateshead Initiative Neil Rami will take up his post at Birmingham’s promotional body in October, following four years in his previous job. His goals will include developing Birmingham’s reputation as one of the UK’s top destinations for corporate and association meetings. The city is home to world-class exhibition facilities including the International Convention Centre and the National Exhibition Centre. Rami’s appointment was welcomed by colleagues at the public-private partnership, which has spent six months recruiting for the role. Ian Squires, chairman of Marketing Birmingham, said: "Neil has a proven track record in making a significant impact in the marketing of some of the UK’s leading regional cities." Meanwhile, Andrew Morris, former chief executive of Earls Court and Olympia, becomes chief executive of the Birmingham’s NEC Group, succeeding Barry Cleverdon, who retires next year.
