Las Vegas considers UK a primary market

Las Vegas is stepping up publicity to consolidate its appeal to UK buyers, following a record-breaking number of conventions at one of its flagship venues. The UK has been the city’s largest overseas market since the 9/11 attacks, and organisers are looking to strengthen this show of Anglo-American confidence. "We see a lot of potential in increasing the number of incoming MICE visitors from around Europe, and in particular the UK," said Michael Goldsmith, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s executive director for conferences & incentives, who visited the UK in March as part of the push. "Corporate events are our biggest growth market, so we want to increase our presence among end users," he added. This coincides with the Las Vegas Convention Center’s announcement that, for the first time in its 45-year history, 20 separate trade shows and events occupied the premises in one month. Eight of these attracted more than 10,000 delegates. Goldsmith put the rise in business down to "the attractiveness of the destination. We offer three million square metres of meetings space in Las Vegas and we’re increasingly affordable".
