St Kitts Prepares First Campaign To Woo UK

By Sarah Wild A three-year marketing campaign to launch the Caribbean island of St Kitts as an incentive destination has been announced by St Kitts Tourism Authority. The initiative will target the UK corporate events market for the first time, and aims to achieve “significant growth in UK visitor numbers”. It will highlight developments that have made the island a viable option for UK incentive groups. Catalysts include last November’s launch of a direct weekly flight from London Gatwick, plus the unveiling of a 648-room Marriott property in February 2003. Other facilities include more than 700 new hotel rooms at four- and five-star hotels. The recent opening of a St Kitts branch of the Barbados-based DMC Sunlinc also provides the destination with a specialist local handler to co-ordinate incentive programmes. PR consultant Lynne Morris, who specialises in the C&I market, will be working with the UK office of St Kitts Tourism Authority to raise the profile of the island in the UK. “We hope to provide lots of exposure for St Kitts through PR initiatives, including fam trips,” says Morris. “It has real potential as an incentive destination.”
