New charter aims to unite Monaco hotels

A business tourism charter that recently took effect in Monaco could help the principality hold its own against other high-profile C&I destinations such as Cannes and Barcelona. The ten-point plan, which was drafted by the MD of the Monaco Government Tourism and Convention Authority Michel Bouquier, brings together the region’s main hotels for the first time. Its aim is to create standardised regulations for meetings services and set up a dedicated point of contact for event organisers. One of the signatories of the charter, Société des Bains de Mer MD of hotels and resorts Michel Sabot, said that it was vital to developing the destination’s C&I product. "The venues were all in agreement that it was time for us to get our collective act together. We realised what was important wasn’t just to sell our own individual properties, but the destination itself," said Sabot. "To compete on the world stage, we had to become more professional in a uniform way – so now, for example, we have all agreed to provide a 24-hour response rate to group requests. Plus it means the convention bureau can act on our behalf when they’re dealing with buyers, in the knowledge that they have our full commitment."
