Telford secures European funds

Telford has secured £1.45m of European funding to support a conference marketing campaign for the region. The cash injection from the European Regional Development Fund will be used to raise the area’s profile as a conference destination. Telford & Shropshire Marketing Partnership will launch a range of activities with the money. These will include hosting a showcase event for UK buyers, fam trips, as well as producing a new brochure and website. Anne Long, marketing and development officer at Telford & Shropshire Marketing Partnership commented: “This money will allow us to develop our marketing of the region further, through both media advertising and our presence at trade shows.” Long added that the showcase is expected to attract at least 100 buyers and is likely to run in June or July. The website is earmarked to go live in early summer. The funding will also enable the partnership to create two new jobs. The new employees will have the specific remit of working with the region’s small venues and helping them to attract meetings and events business. Telford & Shropshire Marketing Partnership has also secured a grant of £80,000 for training that will reach 600 business and leisure tourism staff in the area. “The courses have been specifically designed to improve the quality of customer care in the Shropshire area and should ensure meetings delegates coming to the region receive an improved level of service,” added Long.
