Congestion charge earns mixed review

The £5 central London congestion charge has provoked mixed responses from C&I suppliers and agencies. IBR sales and marketing director Fay Sharpe said while it would make London even more expensive, she admitted most clients travel into London on public transport. The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, which is in the middle of the zone, maintained the extra charges were not an issue. “There’s limited parking here, so 95% of delegates travel by public transport,” said marketing communications manager Helen Blake. Yet Wembley sales and marketing director Peter Tudor is confident the charge will prove advantageous for venues outside the zone. “The charge will cause concern about the extra cost of meetings in the capital,” he said. “Using venues outside the zone means organisers will not have to raise additional funds for expenses incurred by the charge.”
