Norwegian centres moot CVB

Five Norwegian cities are looking at establishing a joint convention bureau, following the closure of the Norwegian Convention Bureau (NCB). The bureaus at Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim and Tromso are in talks about how best to promote the destination overseas. “The tourist board closed its convention department after cuts in government funding. It will be down to the trade to finance future projects targeting the global meetings market,” said the former NCB convention director Finn Kolderup. Kolderup added that the Norwegian Convention Bureau had solely concentrated on the global association market in the past. “However, we know the convention cities, and particularly the convention centres, have been focusing on the UK corporate market and this will continue,” he added. Oslo Convention Bureau congress director Anae Wallin-Rodven added: “The UK is important to us, and Norway is now more accessible thanks to Ryanair flying here, in addition to BA and SAS,” she said. The five cities, together with trade partners, will form a national Norway stand at the Imex and EIBTM shows this year.
