Asian hotel chains create consortium

Five Asian hotel groups have joined forces to form a marketing alliance. The Asian Hotels Alliance (AHA) represents more than 70 hotels and aims to offer similar levels of service across its portfolio. This includes the Marco Polo Hotel Group in Hong Kong, Dusit Hotels & Resorts in Thailand, Landis Hotels & Resorts in Taiwan, Meritus Hotels & Resorts in Singapore and New Otani Hotels in Japan. Marco Polo Hotel Group regional sales manager Doris Hanson said: “The groups will retain their individuality, but offer clients the same standard of service. Clients holding events in one hotel can be assured of the same quality at another group’s property.” The AHA will be marketed in the UK via the groups’ London representatives, which will promote jointly at trade shows. A website has also been developed. “The C&I market is a strong focus for the AHA,” said Hanson. “If agencies organise two-centre trips and use our properties in both destinations then we can offer a special rate.” Landis Hotels & Resorts president Stanley Yen said the AHA is modelled on airline alliances. “Each hotel group is powerful in its own market. The ability to leverage those strengths through cooperation will enable our smaller regional companies to compete with bigger international brands,” he added.
