WTM figures up despite doubts on Excel debut

World Travel Market (WTM) claims its 2002 show attracted its largest ever audience attendance. Unaudited figures show visitor numbers up 6.8% over the previous year. The number of exhibiting countries rose from 172 to 184, with 17 first-timers. The figures are in spite of concerns about WTM’s new home, Excel. Yet, Reed Travel Exhibitions group exhibition director Fiona Jeffery said the company will still carry out independent research and gauge opinions before planning this year’s show. The Excel site will have five new hotels operating by WTM 2003 – Holiday Inn, Travel Inn, Ibis, Novotel and Ramada properties.
