Indonesia initiates Bali boost

The Indonesian Culture & Tourism Board (ICTB) has launched a series of recovery initiatives for this year to rebuild international confidence in Bali, in the aftermath of last October’s terrorist attacks on the island. ICTB executive chairman Setyanto Santosa explained the body will be running fam trips for the C&I sector, in a bid to get business back to 2001 levels when the UK was Bali’s largest European market. Domestic carrier Garuda Indonesia will also be involved, and will offer reduced-rate or complimentary tickets for the fam trips. Participation at industry trade shows, such as EIBTM, will also be stepped up, and the Pacific Asia Travel Association annual conference is still scheduled to be held in Bali between 13-17 April. Thomas Hannah & Associates chairman Kevin Ingram recently returned to Bali on a fact-finding mission, and found increased security measures and hotel groups continuing to invest in properties. Ingram stressed the need for UK buyers to get groups back to Bali. “Raising awareness is just a first step in helping Bali to regain its place as an incentive destination,” he said.
