Maritz unveils tool to cut expenditure

Maritz Travel has launched a management system it claims will cut meetings expenditure. Meetings Consolidation is being rolled out in the UK. It mirrors the US initiative run by Maritz-owned McGettigan Partners last year. Maritz claims results from the US demonstrate companies introducing the service have saved up to 10% on meetings costs in the first year, with an increase to 30% annually. Nigel Glover, director of product development at Maritz Travel UK, said the idea of Meetings Consolidation was to centralise meetings data, control budgets, communicate the company’s preferred suppliers internally and maximise negotiating performance. “Often companies assign dedicated personnel to plan meetings,” said Glover. “Yet, meeting planners can often lack the resources and tools needed to produce a cost-effective meetings programme. The situation is even more pronounced when meeting and events expenditure is spread across European sites.” Maritz claimed the savings can be generated in a number of areas, including supplier contracts and tracking of miscellaneous expenses. Glover claimed Maritz Travel is the first agency in the UK to offer such a service. “So far we’ve received positive feedback from clients we’ve shown the system to, and we’re in talks with a number of companies to introduce it,” he added. “The package is tailored to suit each client. Once we have undergone a consultation with the company on their event expenditure, we work out their priorities.” Mark Batey, former managing director of Maritz Communications, has left the company.
