Sydney CVB celebrates wins

The Sydney Convention & Visitors Bureau (SCVB) has pulled in A$197m (£69m) worth of meetings business up to 2012, despite Australia recording an overall drop in tourism since September last year. Over the past three months, the city has won 12 events, attracting up to 12,600 delegates, with total delegate spend estimated to top A$62m (£22m). One of the largest wins came from the World Congress of the Transplantation Society, which is likely to attract 5,000 attendees to the city. The number of international meetings won since September 2001 stands at 38. “International clients are demanding much shorter lead times for delivering event bids,” said SCVB general manager marketing Karen Bolinger. “Through new initiatives the SCVB has achieved an 81% success rate on bids, compared to 71% last year.”
