Easyjet eyes groups market post merger

Easyjet has confirmed that groups business is a niche sector it would be interested in exploring when the proposed merger with Go is finalised in two years. A spokesperson for the company told CIT that Easyjet has not been able to facilitate group bookings thus far because of the implication of administration costs. However, since the new company will be able to learn from the best practices of Go, it may be able to accommodate such bookings into its business system in future. The acquisition is expected to be approved at a meeting of Easyjet shareholders on 17 June. Meanwhile, a report from the Chartered Institute of Marketing on the low-cost airline sector has found that “as business passengers become more budget conscious, no-frills airlines offer a valuable way of putting downward pressure on corporate costs”.
