BACD to hold 2003 AGM in Merseyside

The British Association of Conference Destinations (BACD) has chosen Merseyside for the first time as the destination for its annual AGM next year. The AGM and spring convention will be held from 4-6 June 2003 and its venues are yet to be selected, although the Crowne Plaza Liverpool is a strong possibility. BACD executive director Tony Rogers said: “The Mersey Partnership’s Conference Bur-eau had an excellent presentation and we were impressed by the variety of conference options.” Chris Brown, operations director at The Mersey Partnership, maintained that winning the business is a further sign the region is getting stronger at attracting conference business and that it is being recognised across the UK. “In 1995, 6,500 conferences were held in Merseyside, bringing in £21m. Now more than 10,000 conferences are held each year, contributing £34m to our economy,” he added.
