Diary: Virgin's heavy petting

In these days of pet passports, it was only a matter of time before airlines would twig that the animal kingdom was fair game for a loyalty scheme. Virgin Atlantic has stepped up to the plate with its Flying Paws programme. Gifts include a doggy T-shirt, a toy mouse for felines, while ferrets will receive a limited edition flying jacket on the first flight. Subsequent journeys can net gifts up to and including Prada clothing and pedicures. Mind you, is this compensation enough for a seat in the hold? Diary's pampered pooch will be insisting on an upgrade.
