Opinion: Sounding off - Qualifications offer long-term security to events industry

The ongoing debate about the value of event management qualifications really boils down to a question of vision. Those who scorn time spent learning theory in favour of the instant gratification of ready-made experience are taking a short-term view. And those who demand 'practice not paper' sound worryingly like employers during the recession of the early 1990s who felt that the only incentive their staff needed was a P45. They were happy to hire and fire at will and then bemoaned the shortage of experienced managers five years down the line.
