In pictures: Events industry joins nationwide NHS tribute

As the UK came together to thank frontline healthcare workers, venues did their bit to mark the occasion.

On Thursday night, people around the UK came out en-masse to join the public campaign 'Clap For Our Carers' – a round of applause for NHS workers on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.

The events industry sent a message of thanks to healthcare heroes to coincide with the 8pm round of applause. Participating venues and landmarks used LED technology to illuminate their facades and screens blue.

More than 60 theatres, cathedrals, castles, stadiums, venues and landmarks joined the #lightitblue campaign, including 20 Association of Event Venues (AEV) members.

A spokesperson for the #lightitblue campaign said: “The events and entertainment industry finds itself in an unprecedented state of enforced inaction. The best thing we could do, apart from staying home and looking after our families, was to send out a massive thank you to all of the healthcare professionals who are risking their own health to save people made seriously ill by the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Rachel Parker, AEV director said, “We are proud to have been a part of the #lightitblue project team, and I’m delighted so many AEV members were able to take part in #lightitblue without risking the health of their employees.”

Here are some of the industry’s best reactions on social media.
