FIRST OFF: Fate in the balance on C&I's wheel of fortune

Destinations for C&I programmes tend to be cyclical by nature, falling in and out of favour with organisers as they go from emerging, to established, and then on to passe. Some try hard to reinvent themselves while others are thrust back into the limelight by an auspicious turn of fate. It is Barcelona's chance to enjoy renewed prominence following EIBTM's decision to move the show to the city from 2004 (see p13). Meanwhile, Dubai's meetings offer looks set to be propelled centre stage in the run up to the IMF and World Bank conference, being held in the emirate next September.
