Ruby Hotels' first UK property to open in Southbank in 2020

The carnival-themed Ruby Lucy will bring 'lean luxury' to London in January and have a Marshall guitar amp in every room.

Ruby Hotels, the Munich-based hotel brand, will launch its first UK property in January 2020 on Southbank’s Lower Marsh.

The new 76-room hotel, Ruby Lucy, forms part of an expansion plan for Ruby Hotels to unveil a total of eleven new hotels – including a second London property – by 2022.

Ruby Lucy’s interior design will be inspired by Southbank’s fairs and markets, entertainment and theatre scene, with a carnival theme throughout the hotel.

Just a three-minute walk from Waterloo station, Ruby Lucy will offer 76 rooms, ranging from smaller ‘Nest’ rooms to expansive ‘Loft’ rooms, a stylish 24-hour bar, a communal work station and a library.

Quirky touches include a Marshall guitar amp in each room, which guests can use with their own guitar or one borrowed from reception, and ‘Ruby Radio’, the hotel group’s own internet radio station.

Ruby Lucy will follow Ruby Hotels’ ‘lean luxury’ philosophy: a top location and high-quality fittings and design at an affordable price.

"This works because we accommodate luxury in a relatively condensed space, similar to luxury yachts, and we forego unnecessary services," said Michael Struck, Ruby founder and CEO.

"Thanks to proprietary technical innovations, we plan, build and organise ourselves differently from conventional hotels."

A communal space will serve an organic, locally-produced breakfast and galley kitchens, vending machines and ironing stations will supply guests with all of their needs.

Founded in 2013, the group already operates six Ruby Hotels – in Vienna, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Munich – with twelve more planned.
