SHOW GUIDE: Britain on show

The National Venue Show's UK-only focus ensures that buyers can find all the venues and suppliers they need under one roof. Colette Doyle reports on the line-up

Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre

The AECC will be showcasing its £18m expansion project, due for completion by spring 2003, which will provide Aberdeen with a world-class convention centre. H38

Alton Towers

As part of a £40m investment made this year, the park is expanding its accommodation, conference and leisure facilities with the opening of a second themed hotel in the spring of 2003. The 200-room Calypso Springs Hotel will have a separate state-of-the-art business and conference centre, capable of hosting up to 400 delegates. H18

Barbican Centre

The centre launches a new venue for conferences and events this month, the Barbican Theatre, which has a capacity of between 300 and 900. The centre can also accommodate conferences for 15 to 1,989 delegates at the Barbican Hall and has 450 parking spaces on site. The facility also has state-of-the-art, remote-control digital cameras linked to an in-house broadcast quality network. F48

Bournemouth International Centre & Conference Bournemouth

The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC)'s ongoing programme of improvements has seen the installation of an upgraded infra-red deaf loop system and lifts will soon be added to allow disabled access to the Windsor Hall balcony. Conference Bournemouth is a marketing partnership between the BIC and local suppliers, offering organisers a choice of 33 conference hotels, unusual and historic venues and accommodation-booking agencies, as well as other support services. The Concept Centre

The Bedfordshire venue will be showcasing its offer of three versatile event spaces - the Concept Centre, Concept 2 and Pod. The Concept Centre is known for its flexibility and individuality and is capable of accommodating events for up to 500 guests. Concept 2 provides a dramatic setting for those considering large-scale events. Used on its own or as an extension to the Concept Centre, Concept 2 is ideal for product launches, conferences, exhibitions and functions such as fashion shows and awards dinners, holding events for up to 1,000 guests. For smaller functions of between 20 and 80 Pod is a stand-alone venue suitable for business meetings, product clinics and small conferences, as well as an activity base for Passion - a flexible, off-the-shelf collection of event formats, ideal for team building. Conference Centres of Excellence

This leading consortium of specialist conference venues is unveiling a change of image. Along with the new branding comes an "inspirational" logo, brochures, website and members' directory. The CCE will also be taking this opportunity to position itself and its 33 member venues as the first choice for meetings, reminding buyers of their commitment to provide a distraction-free learning environment. East Midlands Conference Centre

Set in 130 hectares of tranquil parkland close to the city centre on the University of Nottingham campus, this venue features a 676m2 banqueting hall for up to 850 delegates, a tiered conference theatre for 550, and a further 11 syndicate rooms. H30

Four Pillars Hotels

The Oxfordshire-based hotel group will be showcasing the conference facilities of its newest property, Tortworth Court. Located on the edge of the Cotswolds, this 189-room, Grade II-listed Victorian mansion reopened last year after being restored by Four Pillars. The hotel has an array of conference spaces that can accommodate up to 400 delegates in total. A30

King's Hall Exhibition & Conference Centre

The centre is the largest venue in Northern Ireland offering more than 10,000m2 of exhibition space and a separate conference centre able to accommodate up to 1,000 delegates. It is situated just two miles from Belfast city centre and served by two main airports, with a train station adjacent to the venue. The venue is also directly accessible to the city's main motorway and sea links. B21

London Tourist Board & Convention Bureau

London Convention Bureau (LCB) has been working with the National Venue Show to coordinate a London-branded area at the show to give the city greater prominence and to make it easier for clients to locate the city's suppliers. LCB will also be launching its new website, which will provide a one-stop-shop service for organisers planning a meeting, conference or exhibition in the capital. F59

Marketing Manchester

The organisation offers a free venue-finding and accommodation booking service with practical support and impartial advice on over 150 conference venues in and around Manchester. Exciting newly opened attractions in the city include the Imperial War Museum North, Urbis (hailed as the museum of the modern metropolis), plus Manchester City Art Galleries. G79

Mission Business Systems

This supplier is launching a range of pre- and post-event management consultancy packages using leading software program, Event Master. The new services will offer both a hands-on approach and remote assistance or coaching for all stages of event planning and execution. B29

Motivation & Marketing Resources

The agency will be promoting a range of imaginative event solutions for conferences, incentives and team building. These include the Labyrinth, a series of fun, yet challenging team activities that can take place both in and outdoors. D59

Orange Studio

Visitors to this stand will be able to find out more about the new break-out playground area at the Orange Studio. This features not only juice and hot drinks machines to help delegates recharge and unwind, but also offers games such as Kerplunk! and spacehoppers. Located in Birmingham city centre, the Orange Studio offers a range of meeting and training rooms that can be tailored to suit organisers' needs. E41

Robinson College Executive Centre

Set on a 140-hectare, tranquil riverside site, this venue has 25 fully equipped conference, training and syndicate rooms, along with a full range of team-building activities, as well as offering an extensive range of leisure facilities. A91

Royal Horticultural Halls

The multi-purpose, central London venue will be promoting its versatile approach to meetings, which has seen it host a wide variety of events, including a conference for 500 BBC staff this July. New to the Royal Horticultural Halls stand this year is five-star caterer, Relish The Experience, the quality catering division of Sodexho Prestige, which is teaming up with the venue to provide an in-house banqueting service. Science Museum

From October the James Bond exhibition will be available for corporate receptions, dinners and Christmas parties. This unusual venue offers a stunning range of galleries accommodating daytime conferences for up to 100 and receptions for up to 2,000. J40

Telford & Shropshire Conferences & Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent Conference Bureau

Enginuity, Ironbridge Gorge Museum's latest attraction and corporate hospitality venue will be launched at the National Venue Show. The Staffordshire Stoke on Trent Conference Bureau will also be launching its new 2002-2003 Conference Guide and contains venues such as Uttoxeter Racecourse, Alton Towers, Drayton Manor Park and Bass Brewery. Train Chartering Company

A train-charter company providing first class, luxury trains and carriages for special events. All the journeys offer steward service, fine dining, onboard entertainment, internal and external branding for clients, audio-visual equipment and webcasting. Exhibition trains run to major shows while sporting trains can be hired for events such as the Ryder Cup. B98

University of Leeds

The university can offer venues as diverse as a city centre conference space for 700 delegates or an exclusive country house. The main campus is only one mile from Leeds railway station and offers a host of value-for-money facilities including tiered lecture theatres, a 700-seat auditorium, 2,000m2 of exhibition space, banqueting for up to 500 and almost 2,000 rooms. Venuemasters, the organisation representing 100 of the UK's leading university and college venues, has teamed up with the organiser of the National Venue Show to create an academic venues pavilion at this year's show.

The pavilion will house representatives from more than 20 member venues, including Royal Holloway, Trinity and All Saints College, Hillscourt Conference Centre and Loughborough University. A70

Villa Park Conference Centre

In a partnership with Catalyst Events, (supplier of team-building exercises and activities), Villa Park Conference Centre will be offering the opportunity to run bespoke events tailored to motivate delegates attending conferences at Aston Villa Football Club.

Facilities include 12 suites that can accommodate up to 800 delegates, some with views over the pitch. A41

Warwick Castle

This historic venue is launching a team-building facility enabling up to 70 delegates to undertake bespoke activities within the picturesque grounds. Warwick Castle has extensive corporate entertainment facilities, including Christmas events such as Kingmaker's Feasts and Highwayman's Suppers, alongside the newly opened Mill and Engine House, recently restored at a cost of £2m.
