C&IT was part of a media FAM trip to Thailand last week, which began with lunch and high tea at the five-star luxury Lancaster Hotel, Bangkok, before a VIP police escort to a regional observatory called Chachoengsao.
The evening featured an astronomy-related ‘starry night’ dinner reception at the planetarium and observatory to view celestial objects like Saturn’s rings and satellites, the great red spot below the equator of Jupiter, Mars’ polar ice caps, and the cratered surface of the Moon.
On day two - after a briefing and panel discussion on the nation’s multi-tiered investment in infrastructure and an Asian ‘speedy train’ - media delegates were taken to Balcony Seaside Sriracha hotel before a 'Hot & Spicy Jamboree' dinner party at Vajiravudh Scout Camp.
Day three included travel to a CSR project at Ban Krasae Bon, Rayong to experience the local way of life and enjoy local food by the Prasae River. Then it was a speedboat to Ao Prow Resort, on the Island of Ko Samet.
Day four included options of trekking in Khao Laemya National Park, offering food to monks on an alms round, portrait drawing or Muay Thai on the beach, before travel to the beach city of Pattaya and a visit to the Nongnooch International Convention And Exhibition Center.
