Hernia Society chooses Manchester

The event will be held in England for the first time in over 20 years when it's hosted by Manchester Central in 2022.

The European Hernia Society's annual congress will take place at Manchester Central in 2022.

It is expected to attract over 1,000 visitors from 24 different countries and is the first time that the event will have been held in England in over 20 years.

The society is a non-profit making international scientific forum that devotes itself to improving patient care in the field of hernia surgery.

Professor Aali Sheen, a consultant surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary, was part of a team working on the bid. He said: "I am very excited about bringing this event to Manchester and looking forward to showing our visitors what a great city this is - thank you to the teams at Manchester Central and Marketing Manchester who have made this possible."

Manchester Central will also host congresses such as the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group, in collaboration with The Christie, and the European Resuscitation Council in October 2020.
