American Airlines will start flying from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to London Heathrow from 31 March 2019.

The new route will be flown by a Boeing 777-200ER, with 273 seats offering three classes of service: Business Class; Premium Economy; and Main Cabin service.

The daily service is initially planned to run until 26 October. The airline is also starting a daily Dallas Fort Worth to Dublin, Ireland route from 6 June to 28 Sept 2019.

"Today’s announcement is a reflection of the strength of the Phoenix economy, and one that only promises to make it stronger," said Phoenix mayor Thelda Williams.

"This has been many years in the making, and I want to thank the oneworld alliance, American Airlines and the City of Phoenix team for working together to turn it into a reality."
