Brazilian island Fernando de Noronha has been crowned the best tropical island destination by a survey from luxury leather goods company David Hampton.
Islands were ranked on 11 key getaway destination priorities – including the number of beaches, number of attractions and quality of restaurants - to give the 50 islands studied a final score out of ten.
With the highest average overall (7.77), Fernando de Noronha also scored highly for local amenities including the average cost of accommodation (8.85), the average quality of restaurants (7.88) and price of domestic beer (6.94).
Isla Mujeres, just across the Bahia de Mujeres from Cancun in Mexico, followed in second place with an overall score of 6.6.
While receiving higher scores for accommodation costs (9) and annual hours of sunshine (7.46) than Fernando De Noronha, it missed the top spot due to low scores in the number of attractions per square mile and fewer beach locations.
