European Hernia Society heading to Manchester

The annual congress dedicated to improving patient care in the field of hernia surgery is coming to England in 2022.

 The European Hernia Society will hold the 2022 edition of its annual congress in Manchester.

Taking place at Manchester Central, the congress with attract over 1,000 visitors from 24 countries. It is the first time the event will be held in England in over 20 years.

The society is a non-profit making international scientific forum that devotes itself to improving patient care in the field of hernia surgery.

Aali Sheen, a consultant surgeon and honorary professor of surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary, worked along side ‘Team Manchester’ on the hard-fought bid. Sheen said: "I am very excited about bringing this event to Manchester and looking forward to showing our visitors what a great city this is.

"Thank you to the teams at Manchester Central and Marketing Manchester who have made this possible."

Sheona Southern, managing director at Marketing Manchester, said: "Manchester’s proud history of healthcare innovation, combined with world-class facilities and fantastic tourism and culture allows us to attract the world’s leading scientific minds to meet in our city and discuss advances in their field."
